Deaconess

DUTIES OF THE DEACONESS

The Deaconess Board of Mt. Zion is made up of faithful, Christ loving, God fearing women who labor for the Master, not for praise or recognition, but for the “Building up of the body of Christ.”

The work of the Deaconess is somewhat like that of the Deacon. Paul gives qualifications for the Deacon, which may well apply to the Deaconess.
  • Visit the sick and shut-in and offer assistance in physical and moral support.
  •  Send cards to the sick and bereaved.
  • Prepare the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday.
  • Assist the ladies in preparing for Baptism.
  • Laundry the towels, blankets and robes used for Baptism.
  • Laundry the gloves used for Baptism, also the gloves used in Communion.
  • Assist in preparing dinner for bereaved families.
  • Serve as flower bearers at funerals held at Mt. Zion.
  • Maintain the Communion Set and tablecloths.
  • Fresh water in the pulpit each service.
  • Serve refreshments for Watch Meeting service.
  • Assist the Deacons and Pastor in any way asked.
  • Beautification of the pulpit each Sunday.
  • As God fearing women of the Deaconess Board, pray without ceasing.
